Garden Update- Bee Healthy and CSA

Soil temps finally warmed enough in the garden to set out some of the deluge of plants growing in the greenhouse–Hooray!! Happy, happy plants! At the present we have ALL the early Brassica’s (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) in their spot in the garden. Yesterday we set out all the eggplant and peppers…2,160 plants (or thereabouts)…3 types eggplant, European Sweet peppers, Bell Peppers of all colors, Sweetie snack peppers and Shishito’s, and 7 types of Hot Peppers (Jalapeno, Habanero, Hungarian Hot Wax, Paprika, Serrano, and Cayenne).

TOMORROW: Tomatoes…1,248 plants…and let’s hope the season blesses us with a harvest this year! (2020 was the first time in 13 years the season was late starting and cut short with an early fall-) And that is where we are with the garden the first week of June. (Cherokee pictured below!)

Still time to join the CSA– info at http://www.lloydcraftfarms.com, sign up on-line, and pay by check or cash at Bee Healthy. Invest in our garden and your health.

Doing your own garden? YAY! Consider a Leap-Frog share for $290 to supplement your garden and add things you may not grow…such as melons, Brussels sprouts (110 days with a unique growing culture), tomato varieties new to you, fennel, 5 kinds of cucumbers, winter squash in the fall, fresh onions, lots of broccoli and cauliflower, and a good variety of cabbages…much more to mention! (Consider the CSA as a back up plan to your garden efforts…a member several years ago dropped out of the CSA to grow her own. 3 weeks into the CSA she sent me a picture of a weedy patch…”This is my garden…too late to join yours?” We made room!)

The High Tunnels are readying for their first major harvest tomorrowDwarf Bok Choi, Kale, more Rhubarb, and fresh herbs. Red Radishes and Black Summer Bok Choi, as well as the Swiss Chard should be ready for next week. Green Onions are several weeks behind. (Tomatoes and cucumbers are in experimental stage…honing our skill for next winter when we attempt to tackle raising tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and zucchini in our 45×60 greenhouse which has been in construction for 4 years. The new flooring–heated floor–came in this week. Hope to finish it this summer in time to plant for the winter crops that normally come out of Mexico!)

The Asian Delight Dwarf Bok Choi will go into the Special Boxes this Thursday, along with Greybull Valley Greenleaf lettuce, 2 Rio Star Grapefruit, Cauliflower, and 3# of ORG Red Potatoes. To use in cooking your Bok Choi we are including ORG Garlic, ORG Green Onions, and a branching of ORG Ginger Root! Should be a great box with a lot of potential for $30. (We have a limited supply of a sheet called: “How to Cook Bok Choi, 3 Ways”. Ask for it by name…)
