A few weeks ago we announced that we were discontinuing the Info Sheet with Recipes as they were getting expensive to print.  My thought was to send the info sheet with recipes file digitally to you via email, but I forgot how much time that entails after already working 11 hours on Thursday, and 4 hours the night before… SO…Here’s the latest and I think this will work the best:

  • We are continuing with the Info Sheet (1 page, 2 sides) and focusing on nutritional information or interesting side notes
  • Recipe numbers will be referenced in the Info Sheet
  • You can check them out here at under the Recipe Tab.
  • The Recipe page is rather primitive…locate the recipe under the contents listing, then scroll down to that number, highlight, copy, and paste into your Word program to print OR retrieve it on an iPad or smartphone and view it from there as you cook
  • Enjoy the cooking experience!  Read the recipe to get the gist and then go for it…

Tell me what you think!~  The Farmer’s Wife

We’ll have lots of The Store items to buy…Reasonably priced…definitely fresh…and many organically grown.  Asparagus, apples, Heirloom oranges, bananas, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and much, much more!

So, why do we care about organically grown?

  • First and foremost, studies have found that produce organically grown has a higher nutritional value.  Information from Ty Bollinger with The Truth About Cancer explains it this way:

Organic foods tend to contain more vitamins and minerals that are missing from commercially grown or raised fruits, vegetables, or livestock. That means they have a stronger impact on your immune system, help you sleep better, and have a more positive effect on body weight.

The Quality Low Input Food (QLIF) project is a study in the European Union researching the benefits of organic food. They raised cattle and grew fruits and vegetables on adjacent properties. One was organic, the other a traditional non-organic site. What they discovered was shocking.

  • The organically produced fruits and vegetables contained 40% more antioxidants.
    • They contained higher levels of vitamins and minerals such as iron and zinc.
    • Organically raised cows produced milk that tested with almost 90% more antioxidants.

These findings show that eating organically can increase nutrient intake for people that don’t normally consume the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. You’ll get more nutritional pop with the benefits of organic meat and produce.

  • Second, organically raised should contain less toxins to stress our systems or compromise the microorganisms in our gut. We are learning some of the problems with deficient flora and fauna in the digestive tract. In the 70’s the digestive system was known for its role in digestion, but little was known of its importance as the heart of the immune system. Now, more and more studies are validating the importance of a healthy gut, and some of the dangers to our health through compromised digestive systems by the abuse of antibiotics and increased toxins from our environment or in our food. I read an interesting article regarding Roundup Ready foods. The author said though glyphosate is not toxic to humans, it is toxic to the microorganisms in our gut. Hmmm…that’s an interesting thought…

Well, The Farmer’s Wife thinks that’s enough for one night!  Got a call from the Truck Driver, and he is 2 hours out.  Looks like a late night here at Lloyd Craft Farms.  But we will be up and running at 10:00 a.m. for the Buyer’s Group.  Stop in and pick up your Special Boxes, shop a bit, and chit-chat.  We’ll be open until 6:00 p.m.  This is every Thursday from now until the last week of May!
