Where does the time go?! We are already finishing up the first month of the CSA–Garden is giving us new stuff each week! And we are stocking The Store with fruits, herbs, greens, and other vegetables not in the share.
This week: Groups C12 and C1–Here’s what we have planned for your SHARE:
GIANT head of Imperial Broccoli–use this for several meals! Not as tight of a head as we would prefer, but that’s what the heat does. Flavor on the Imperial remains perfect though the dome is disheveled…like me this time of year!
Cabbage–your choice this week. Chose between Alcosa Savoy (crinkled leaves, best cooked), Red Express (a small early red that likes to bloom), or Tendersweet (flat head with a lot of surface area that makes it a great wrap). Looking for the green head? We have some of those stocked in The Store.
Islander Purple Bell Peppers (2)–a light fleshed bell that is as beautiful as it is tasty. Great salad addition, loses its color and texture when cooked. Islander’s go from light purple to dark purple to shades of orange to sunset red…like the sunsets on a paradise island!
CUCUMBERS!–Chose between the Striped Armenian or the Chinese Suyo (both are ‘snake’ shaped and add pop to any salad when thinly sliced), add 2 Tasty Jades (English style), and 2 large Harmonies (European Picklers, or what we sell as Snack Cukes when smaller). Why not have a cucumber a day?
Summer Squash–Zucchini, Zephyr, Yellow–for maybe the last time in the Share as the tomatoes and peppers kick in and do their part in the Garden. (We will have Extra Zucchini and Yellow Squashes for those who wish to freeze grated zucchini, or use their summer squash in multiple meals.) Fresh is BEST!
THE STORE: Flathead Cherries (only 12 bags–ORG next week), ripened Washington ORG Apricots, cute little Del Monte Pineapples, Mangoes, and ORG Pink Lady apples…as well as Lemons, Limes, and Grapefruit (all ORG). More ORG Bananas this week at $1.00/#. We also have added ORG Nectarines and ORG Red Plums.
The glass cooler will be packed: Flamestar (orange) Cauliflower, the last of the Bishop (white) Cauliflower and some ‘Riced’ Cauliflower suitable for ricing at a reduced price…Green cabbages and more heads of Broccoli…Bagged Broccolini (Galion X) and Shishito’s and Snack Cukes…Also Cilantro and Herbs from the Garden…Organic Girl Baby Spinach and 50/50 Salad Mix…Ginger Root and Turmeric…ORG Garlic…and I’m sure I’ve left something out!
Also, ask me about natural pastured pork from Fort Causeway in Lovell. Kevin & Keri have put together a 10# packet for us with Cottage Bacon and Pork Bacon (different cuts from the pork), Pork Chops, and Fresh Ground Pork. The pigs are born and raised in Wyoming with no added hormones or antibiotics. What natural means is the bacon is cured with celery salt and sugar, and not nitrites. We have been sampling our packet and it is some of the best meat I’ve had in a while! We are selling the packets for $92, which is a good price for quality meat according to the USDA survey. (Sorry, not selling just the bacon by itself, but believe me, you won’t be disappointed with the ground pork or chops!)
See you Thursday! Don’t forget, Kris with Diamond S Delights is there, too–pick up some of her fresh raw milk cheeses, spreads, and Kefir. You can sign up for your own weekly milk. Enzyme rich milk is amazing, and easier to digest for most folks. See you the 26th! The Farmer’s Wife
