Rainier Cherries and Washington Apricots–

The Rainier Cherries from Montana were AWESOME!  They were a better price last week but at $4.75/# it’s still not bad for something that fresh and tasty. The Washington apricots were just as good as last year–more of both are in order.

You have two ways to buy them:

1) Thursday Pick Up while supplies last:

Rainier Cherries……$4.75/# —  purchasing 36 pounds…sold in one pound bags

Washington Apricots…..$2.75/# — purchasing 50 pounds…sold in one pound bags

2)  Order a box of your own–EMAIL OR TEXT BY MONDAY, JULY 20TH.

Rainier Cherries…$76 a box (18#)

Washington Apricots…$55 a box (50#)

MISSED SHARES

In your agreement it states that missed Shares are forfeited.  Ok…I’m a soft touch–after years of being a working mom, soccer mom, career woman, and Farmer’s Wife, I feel your pain!  BUT—15 missed shares is too much to set up, especially after a 14 hour day, and takes up too much room in an already crowded cooler...

…so you can miss THREE times before you forfeit your share for that week.  (I’m still a soft touch according to the people around me!)

We are not putting missed shares in the crates as in the past–Missed shares will be put in a tub all together and labeled either Mini or Half.  You can come Thursday evening or Friday morning and pick up the share–after that time it is assimilated or donated.  Directions will be on the wall with what is in the share for each size, and you can take it from the tub and transfer it to your own bags. No guarantee that all the items will be there at that stage in the game.

The cooler door is VERY HARD to open…use two hands and don’t hurt yourself!

DELIVERIES

Thursday morning deliveries in town are meant to make it convenient for those that work at businesses on the route to Thermopolis, or are Senior citizens.  Friday morning Deliveries are for those members who live North–Manderson/Hyattville and Basin.  (All other members, Pick Up Thursday at The Farm between 4:30 and 6:00.)

General directions on the Deliveries–

Business Shares are boxed together with a list of members on the box, their share size, and any options.  Inside the box will be a list of what goes in each share.  Point Person will take care of internal distribution and operations.  Members need to bring their own bags–Boxes should be kept until the next week’s delivery when they will be picked up.  Any questions on the shares once delivered?  Call me at 431-1219 ASAP

Thermopolis and North Route Deliveries will be in the SSB grocery bags…New ones are being donated by Reese’s & Ray’s IGA–we’ll have two for each person.  Be sure and return them each week so we can keep a sufficient supply to set up the next week’s shares.

EGGS–  You can add Farm Fresh EGGS, Locally raised by two of our members, to your share and have them delivered Thursday or Friday morning– Prepay for the season, $3.25/dozen…$48.75 for 15 weeks, $22.75 for 7 weeks (Leap-Frog).  Send me an email by MONDAY to add:  craftterri@rtconnect.net, pay Thursday morning.

What about the EXTRA’s Table?  Every Thursday at The Farm we have an EXTRA’s TABLE with surplus from the garden–cucumbers, summer squash, peppers, cabbage…etc.  Every member is invited to partake of the EXTRA’s TABLE on Thursday during the Pick Up–Even if you get a morning delivery, you can still come to The Farm during Pick Up and get EXTRA’s…like running to market after work to pick up a few more fresh things!  (Sorry we can not include them in the delivery–they are not EXTRA’s until all the Shares have been put together and that doesn’t happen until Thursday evening.)

Lettuce/Spinach option:  we got shorted 12 bags of Baby Kale–those members on the delivery routes got one bag this week and will get an extra greens item next week…Leap-Froggers- July 30th.  I am looking at some heads of lettuce and a bagged green for the Lettuce Option.

Remember:  you can upgrade any time before August 15th if you’d like to increase the amount of veggies you get each week or each Leap Frog Week–

Thanks, The Farmer’s Wife

First week SHARE– DONE! EXTRA’s TABLE

We made it!  The first week is complete–hope all are enjoying their fresh veggies, and the Fruit Share and Lettuce option for those that added them.  Thanks for your patience as we work out details on the Delivery Routes and Thursday Pick UP!

This week’s SHARE was Gonzales cabbage, 5 bundle of Red Rover radishes, Striped Armenian and 1# bag Harmonie cucumbers, and Summer Squash (Zucchini, Yellow, or Zephyr)–for the MINI.  HALF Share was a Caraflex cabbage with a pointed top!, 8 bundle of Red Rover Radishes, Striped Armenian and 1-1/2# bag Harmonie cucumbers, two summer squash, and a 3# bag of round summer squash (8 Ball Medley mix).  (Want more quantity? Exercise the upgrade option until August 15th!)

For Next week’s SHARE we anticipate Red Thumb fingerlings, bag of broccoli, last of the Radishes, new Sultan cucumbers, and more summer squashes.  Each week a new item, or two, will be added and some item dropped.

We try to offer items only twice to make room for the new veggies ready for harvest–but we always have an EXTRA’s Table at The Farm Pick Up for those old standards:  cucumbers, zucchini, peppers…and whatever else is in the cooler and needs to move–

All members are welcome to partake of the EXTRA’s TABLE–at The Farm between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m.  Those on delivery routes are welcome to come to The Farm for the EXTRA’s, too.  Family reunion, company for dinner, craving for lots of fresh cucumbers??–come to The Farm!  (Best selection earlier during the Pick Up–sorry, too difficult to include random extra’s in each share, but will try to put some extra’s in the Business boxes…when possible we’ll try to include a box in the truck for the out of town delivery routes–no guarantees: dependent on availability and time–)

Thanks!  Farmer’s Wife

FRUIT SHARE CORRECTION–

Update on the Fruit Share…we have 24 Fruit Shares, one of which is a PLUS.  We have two that are Leap-Frogs for 8 weeks.  I am buying as much as I can from the local orchards and filling in the rest with Spokane Produce organics.

Zucchini Blossoms– TO EAT!

fried zucchini flowers zucchini flower

Cathy and Duane Groshart returned from an exciting vacation to Italy…and guess what Cathy learned to make?

FRIED SQUASH BLOSSOMS–  They are simple, here’s directions in Cathy’s own words:

Stuffing was 1/2 C. ricotta , 1/4 C. fresh ground parmesan, a clove of minced garlic, fresh oregano and basil. Mix it altogether.

Pull out the pistil from the middle of the flower (have to be careful not to rip the flower.) I put the stuffing in, and rolled up the top of the flower. I dipped them in beaten egg and rolled them in flour. Then I  fried in olive oil, turning when brown.

Serve warm.

They were pretty easy. We had them for the main course but you could have them as a side and serve fewer per person.

Update on Start of the CSA
