We did not include the Tart Pie Cherries in the Fruit Share but are offering them for Canner’s because of the preparation necessary.

How many pies can you get from a pound of cherries and how many pounds in an order? I am really stupid when it comes to estimating that sort of thing. I’d like to order some but am in a quandary. Cathy Groshart

Cathy–I sent a pie recipe to your email, but will also post it on the blog under recipes for anyone else interested in making a cherry pie. It takes 2# of pie cherries for a pie. You can order 2# for a pie, or 5# for a pie and freeze the rest for either pies in the future, or wine in the Fall. Brenda, our wine-maker extraordinaire, says it takes 3# of cherries for wine, AND it is best frozen as it helps to break down the cherry to yield the most juice. We have not included pie cherries in the Fruit Share as we considered it more of a Canner’s item because of the tartness and processing necessary. Thanks, The Farmer’s Wife
