Membership Drive Report

46 CSA agreements are in for the 2013 Season–40 people took advantage of the EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT and saved $50!

22 others have added their name to our rolls, and reserved a spot–Get those agreements returned as soon as possible. We will close the membership the end of this month or sooner if the available shares are sold.

The Fruit Share is on track–we should have the 20 needed participants.

We continue to make plans, prepare the hoophouse, and start to get things ready for the CSA 2013 SEASON.

I will be posting information on the Canner’s Sharers next week–that is the produce that will be available for purchase for canning this year…what kind and what quantities we are planting. Canners will have an opportunity to add their name to the Canner’s roll to reserve their spot. We also are working on canning helps from a Master Canner–she can teach a class on canning techniques, or will visit your home to help you with your canning. (For a fee–a reasonable fee.) At the present I’m waiting for her to return home from being a new GRANDMA!!

One more item–we have been studying The Food Safety Act and will be passing on information to you about what that is all about and how it will impact our operation and you as a consumer. The good news is there is a recognition that Farmer-direct-to the consumer does not have the same inherent risks as farmer, to the packer, to the distribution center, to the store, to the consumer. Your food supply chain is much shorter with less opportunities for contamination. Contamination can occur anywhere, regardless of farm size, but what are now called Good Ag Practices are steps to take to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.

That’s all for now, Folks–The Farmer’s Wife
